Through the legal assistance and survey conducted by our institution in the coastal and rural areas, we find that majority of people are unaware of their rights and opportunities. The basic reason behind this is the poor living condition, illiteracy and lack of legal awareness. Faculty members and students provide the necessary guidance and assistance to them.

Title of the Practice: Arogya Nidhi
At Sree Narayana Guru College of Legal Studies (SNGCLS), we are committed to student welfare, and the Arogya Nidhi initiative exemplifies our dedication to ensuring that our students have access to medical emergency assistance without financial concerns. This initiative addresses the urgent need for healthcare support within the campus, highlighting the institution’s priority to safeguard student well-being.
Objectives:
- Provide immediate medical financial support
- Ensure quick access to healthcare services on campus
- Alleviate the financial burden of medical emergencies
- Promote a healthy and secure campus environment
- Foster student well-being and mental peace during health crises
The Arogya Nidhi policy ensures that in the event of sudden health issues, students receive prompt financial assistance for medical care. This provision continues until parents or guardians take over, reducing the stress and burden of unforeseen medical costs. It is specifically designed for students experiencing health emergencies on campus, allowing them to focus on recovery rather than the financial aspects of medical care.
The Context: SNGCLS recognizes that medical emergencies can be unpredictable, and the stress associated with such situations can hinder students’ ability to focus on their academic and personal growth. The institution’s commitment to student health and safety is reflected in this policy, ensuring that no student has to face a medical emergency alone or without resources.
The Practice and Uniqueness: The unique aspect of this policy is that it provides immediate medical financial assistance to any student who encounters a health issue on campus. The college covers the initial expenses, giving students and their families time to organize further care. This approach sets the college apart by not only providing academic guidance but also addressing students’ physical health needs.
Evidence of Success:
- Students facing medical emergencies received timely financial aid and medical care, ensuring quick recovery.

- A supportive and caring campus environment that prioritizes health alongside academic success.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required:
Despite the success of the Arogya Nidhi initiative, the only challenge we face is the absence of an on-campus ambulance service. In the event of a sudden medical emergency, students are swiftly transported in vehicles provided by faculty members, ensuring that no time is lost in getting them the care they need. Other than this, the college encounters no significant challenges in delivering timely and effective medical support to our students, reflecting our strong commitment to their well-being.
This initiative demonstrates SNGCLS’s holistic approach to student care, combining academic rigor with a strong support system for personal well-being.
